CAT CARE/CLINIC ASSISTANT
 
Columbia Gorge Cat Rescue Rescue is a nonprofit volunteer rescue group dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and placing the community’s abandoned, neglected and injured cats and kittens into loving, lifetime homes. We provide spay and neuter services for stray and feral cats in our community. Our clinic is in Lyle, WA, 12 miles from the Hood River bridge.
 
Job Description
 
§  Variable schedule as intake of cats creates the schedule which is always changing
§  Cat care includes cleaning of litter boxes, cages, and bedding, feeding cats and changing water and cleaning dishes daily
§  Doing clinic and cat related laundry and dishes and maintaining the organization of these items
§  Cleaning cat housing cages as cats come and go
§  Cleaning carriers
§  Check in cats for surgery at clinic and coordinate getting them picked up
§  Monitor supply of vaccines and tests: communicate to clinic manager when running low
§  Monitor separate list of consumables that need to be replaced but are not medical supplies
§  Check stock of blank logs and releases: make copies if needed
§  Assist with spay/neuter tasks such as setting out supplies and preparing spay packs
§  Approximately 20 hours/week (may expand to more hours)
§  Variable hours, including evenings & weekends
§  Approximately 11 months/year
§  Hired as Independent contractor
§  $15/hr
 
Qualifications

 
§  Enjoy working with animals, including feral and semi-feral cats, or interest in developing the ability
§  6 months related experience
§  Working knowledge of Excel, Word and email
§  Enjoy working with nonprofit organizations
§  Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with public, other staff, board members, volunteers and veterinarians -- in person, on the phone and via email
§  Ability to work independently, as well as be a team player
§  Maturity and resourcefulness to identify, communicate, address issues and follow up to ensure resolution
§  Understanding of infectious diseases and willingness to adhere to protocols to prevent spread
§  Willingness to learn new medical/behavior techniques and then implement them
§  Capable of administering medications as needed and update each cat’s medical chart
§  Have car, auto insurance and valid driver’s license
§  Have cell phone
